Mickey Rooney (né Joseph Yule, Jr le 23 septembre 1920 à Brooklyn, New York, mort le 6 avril 2014 à North Hollywood, Los Angeles) est un acteur, réalisateur, producteur, scénariste et compositeur américain.

Biographie

Natif du quartier de Brooklyn à New York, dans l'État de New York aux États-Unis, il a commencé sa carrière à l'âge de 17 mois en 1922, il est une superstar adolescent lorsqu'il joue son personnage de Andy Hardy dans plusieurs films. Il a une des carrières les plus longues en tant qu'acteur, de 91 ans en 2013 s'étalant sur 10 décennies, des années 1920 aux années 2010. Durant sa carrière, il gagne de multiples récompenses, dont un Oscar et un Emmy Award. Les plus jeunes générations le connaissent pour son rôle principal de Henry Dailey dans la série L'Étalon noir dans les années 1990 diffusé en France sur M6. Il fit de sa petite taille — 1,57 m (5′ 2″) — un atout de comédie.

Il est, avec Carla Laemmle, Lupita Tovar, Jean Darling et Baby Peggy, une des dernières stars qui ont connu le cinéma muet. Il est aussi un des derniers membres de castings de plusieurs films qui sont sortis dans les années 1930 et 1940.

Vie privée

Il a été marié 8 fois. Sa première femme est Ava Gardner de 1942 à 1943. Il divorce. Puis il rencontre Betty Jane Rase de 1944 à 1948, il divorce. Il se marie avec Martha Vickers de 1949 à 1952, il redivorce. Il se marie avec Elaine Devry de 1952 à 1958, il divorce. Il rencontre et se marie avec Carolyn Mitchell de 1958 à 1966, elle meurt assassinée. Tombant dans une profonde dépression, il rencontre une amie de Mitchell, Marge Lane. Il se marie de 1966 à 1967. Il divorce. Il rencontre Carolyn Hockett, il se marie de 1969 à 1974, il divorce. Puis il se marie enfin avec Jan Chamberlin depuis 1978.
