Explosions and gunshots reported by social media. A car was on fire in front of the Splendid Hotel, which is popular with western tourists and UN staff, the AFP news agency reported, and security teams were still to arrive at the scene. A hostage situation reported.
An AFP reporter said they saw three men firing at the hotel while a separate witness said a nearby cafe had also been targeted.
