Harry Liedtke was born on October 12, 1882 in Königsberg, East Prussia, Germany. He was an actor, known for The Merry Jail (1917), The Oyster Princess (1919) and Finances of the Grand Duke (1924). He was married to Christa Tordy, Käthe Dorsch, Ernestine Emaline Johanne Proft and Hanne Schutt. He died on April 28, 1945 in Bad Saarow, Brandenburg, Germany.

Prolific German character actor, one of eleven children born to a merchant. Grew up in an orphanage after his father's death. Worked in retail for a while then studied acting. Worked at the New German Theatre in New York City in 1908 and in 1909 at the Deutsches Theater in Berlin. Appeared in heroic roles in silent romances and melodramas, often acting in as many as ten films per year. He earned up to 1500 Mark per day, making him the highest paid star of German film in his day. On 28 April 1945 Liedtke was killed by Red Army Soldiers in his house at Bad Saarow-Pieskow -east of Berlin- together with his third wife Christa Tordy. One of the Russians smashed a bottle over his head when he tried to save a young woman who had taken shelter in his apartment from being raped. Harry Liedtke developed into one of the first male stars of the German movie. When the sound movie arose the career of Liedtke slackened off. His voice turned out to be unsuitable. He got often supporting roles, leading roles were left over more rarely. Harry Liedtke and his wife Christa Tordy were teared away from live on 28th April 1945. During the invasion of the "Red Army" they were both killed in their house by soldiers. A whole string of entrances in the utmost popular detective serial "Joe Deebs" and "Stuart Webbs" made him well-known for a wide public. Famous directors in his time engaged Liedtke, including Joe May, Georg Jacoby and Ernst Lubitsch. When he became acquainted with the director Hans Oberländer of the "Königliches Schauspielhaus he attended play instructions. In course of time he changed inevitable from a ladykiller to a graying gentleman. With his leading role in "Sophienlund" (1942) he could at least again prove his acting flexibilitation. Harry Liedtke came very early in contact with the medium film. Already in 1912 he appeared in a film for the first time called "Die Rache ist mein". Adequate to his appearance he personified elegant gentlemen and youthful charmer. After the death of his father in 1896, he grew up in an orphanage and began a qualification in retail business.

After initial problems he went to New York for one year to the New German Theatre. After his return his career got finally ahead. Engagements on German theaters, on the "Hof- und Nationaltheater" in Mannheim and on the Berliner "Residenz-Theater" strengthen his acting career.
