Simone Sherise Battle (June 17, 1989 – September 5, 2014) was an American actress and singer from Los Angeles, California. She was a finalist on The X Factor in 2011.

Career

2011: The X Factor and debut single

In 2011 Battle auditioned for the talent show The X Factor (U.S. season 1)in front of judges Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, Cheryl Cole and L.A. Reid – singing the song "When I Grow Up" by the Pussycat Dolls. She was mentored by Cowell after becoming one of the Top 32 finalists in the girls category. Battle was chosen to be part of the live shows with Melanie Amaro, Rachel Crow, Drew, and Tiah Tolliver – making it to the Top 17, however she was eliminated from the girls category during the first week with Tolliver by Cowell. Upon Steve Jones' announcement that she had been eliminated from the competition, Battle promoted the online release of her new music video "He Likes Boys".

2012–14: Success and formation of G.R.L

In August 2012, Simone Battle was initially part of The Pussycat Dolls' proposed new line-up after their past members disbanded in 2010. Her admission to the group was revealed during the opening of the Pussycat Dolls Dollhouse at the Keating Hotel in San Diego.[3][3] Robin Antin later announced on February 2013 that they would continue instead as the "next generation" of the Dolls as a group called "G.R.L".

Death

Simone was found dead at her Los Angeles home at about 8am on 5 September 2014.[4] Her father, Anthony E. Battle, told the Daily Mail, She will be greatly missed and loved. [...] She was an exuberant person and a very loved person."

Her record company and management issued a statement regarding her death: "We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Simone Battle of G.R.L. [...] Simone was an exceptional young talent and human being, and we are all devastated to learn of her passing. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and loved ones at this time."

 Her friend and fellow musician, Derek Butler, announced her death on Instagram. The caption read "I'm still in shock and in disbelief to have confirmed the death of my childhood friend. Her heart was pure gold and her star power limitless. Rest in peace Angel."

The cause of her death is under investigation.

Discography

The discography of American recording artist Simone Battle has released ten YouTube videos, four singles and one music video.

She is most notable for competing on a FOX reality TV talent competition The X Factor created by Simon Cowell. Cowell has also noted Battle as being one of his favorite contestants that he has mentored. She is a new member of The Pussycat Dolls line along with Lauren Bennett, Paula Van Oppen, Natasha Slayton and Natalie Mejia. Battle replaced Amanda Brandche in the new line-up. In August 2012 publicity photos showed the 'new' line-up including Simone Battle replacing Branche. Battle has also recently signed to record labels Kemosabe/Sony/RCA. Her hit single "He Likes Boys" was released online on October 24, 2011. It was written by Simone Battle [5] It was produced by The Movement. Upon Steve Jones' announcement that she had been eliminated from The X Factor, Battle plugged the online release of her new music video "He Likes Boys." She was the only contestant on the show to release a music prior to their elimination. The video has received both positive and negative feedback from fans. The video was shot and directed by Shane McLafferty. Battle has her own YouTube channel called simicocopop and currently writes and records music on it. Prior to recording songs on her own YouTube channel. She has released several singles and plans to release more solo singles on her new PCD album while working alongside with the girls.
