He completed his studies in mathematics in Basel and Bern, graduating as a secondary school teacher and doctor. His dissertation in 1902 dealt with the theory of integrals of the Bernoulli function. After working at the bourgeois orphanage in Basel and at the Rosenberg Institute in St. Gallen, he married Emma Rickli on 6 April 1906 during his time at the Gymnasium in Bern. In 1911 he was elected as a teacher at the upper secondary school in Basel. He was elected as a teacher at the Realgymnasium in Basel in 1930. Henneberger left teaching in 1944 at the age of 66. He ended his work as secretary of the Commission for Academic Career Counselling in 1947 after 26 years.

In the military, Moriz Henneberger rose to the rank of captain and commanded an army company on active service.
