Eduardo Manuel Iriarte (Argentina, 1934 -  † 03.01.2018)

  Chess composer of endgame studies

Life

He was born in the province of Mendoza, Argentina, in 1934, where he studied music, mathematics and drawing, and eventually also became interested in easel painting.

Chess composition (chess studies)

His artistic temperament soon led him to discover chess composition, and his first chess study appeared in 1956, dedicated to his teacher and friend José Mugnos. Since then he had published many works, but he had also a considerable number of unpublished works.

Iriarte had given preference to the composition of "miniatures", almost always based on original ideas and with light material. In his works, the principle of beauty and economy complement each other harmoniously.

The extreme synthesis achieved by Iriarte in the field of miniatures are the well-known "minimal endgames" of King and Pawn per side which will be published on this site.

Successes in the field of chess compositions

He had participated in numerous international competitions of chess compositions and obtaining prizes, distinctions and prizes. He had also published several chess studies in European magazines specialised in the composition of endgames and chess problems.

He passed away at the age of 83 on 3 January 2018.
