Kurt Eucken (1899-1947) was an Argentinian chess composer and remarkable study composer.

Life:

Kurt Eucken was born in Dresden, Germany and settled permanently in Argentina in 1938. He had a background in music, sculpture, and mathematics, and was a violinist by profession.

Chess compositions:

Eucken's first works were inverse mate problems which were published in the German magazine "Die Schwalbe".

Later, in Argentina, he devoted himself to the composition of finals, taking part in international competitions in which he achieved notable success. This presence in competitions lasted only two years and in that period he took part in 5 competitions with works sent, almost all of them by his friends, several of them after his death.

The summary of his exceptional results:

Prizes: 2 First, 1 Second, 1 Third, and 2 Fifth Prizes. Honourable Mention: 1 , and Commended 2 .

Valuable unpublished works by this remarkable composer have been obtained thanks to the collaboration of José Mugnos and Maestro Francisco Benko.

Fans of the solution of the enigmas posed by chess composition, particularly those from the province of Salta, Argentina, highlight the high aesthetic value of Eucken's works, in addition to the difficulties they present for their resolution.
