Barbara Cook (* 25. Oktober 1927 in Atlanta, Georgia; † 8. August 2017 in New York City, New York) war eine US-amerikanische Sängerin und Schauspielerin.

Leben

Nach Anfängen als Sängerin in New Yorker Nachtclubs gab Cook 1951 ihr Broadway-Debüt in dem Musical Flahooley. Es folgten Rollen in den Uraufführungen von Candide (1956) und The Music Man (1957). Für ihre Leistung in The Music Man wurde sie mit dem Tony Award ausgezeichnet.

Cook trat bis Mitte der 1970er Jahre in Musicals und im Michael’s Pub auf. Danach war sie vorwiegend als Konzert-Sängerin in eigenen Personality-Shows zu hören. Zudem nahm sie zahlreiche Schallplatten auf.

Am 8. August 2017 starb sie im Alter von 89 Jahren in ihrem Haus in Manhattan an Atemstillstand.
