John Kenneth Wetton (17 juillet 1949-31 janvier 2017) est un bassiste, chanteur et guitariste de rock britannique.

Musicien professionnel depuis la fin des années '60, John Wetton a été membre des groupes Mogul Thrash, Family, King Crimson, Roxy Music, Uriah Heep, UK, Wishbone Ash et Asia.

Wetton est initialement reconnu pour le son puissant de sa basse et ses capacités d'improvisation (comme le montrent le coffret d'enregistrements en concert de King Crimson The Great Deceiver ou encore Lark's tongues in aspic pt 1). Bien que sa carrière musicale depuis les années 1980 ait pris un tournant plus commercial (le premier album d'Asia, en 1982, est le plus vendu de sa carrière), c'est aussi un compositeur à l'origine de certaines des plus belles mélodies des groupes auxquels il a appartenu, notamment King Crimson, UK et Asia.

Il a toujours travaillé avec des musiciens exceptionnels, comme Robert Fripp, Bill Bruford, Carl Palmer, et Steve Howe ainsi que, Allan Holdsworth, Steve Hackett, Phil Manzanera, Martin Barre, Ian MacDonald, Chester Thompson, Ken Hensley, Geoff Downes, Duncan Mackay, Martin Orford ou encore Eddie Jobson, Terry Bozzio, avec lesquels il a sans cesse formé de nouveaux groupes et créé de nouvelles chansons.

Lors des dernières années de sa vie, il jouait rarement de la basse, privilégiant une approche auteur-compositeur-interprète qui met fréquemment en avant l'emploi de la guitare acoustique. John récupèrait lentement à la maison, après avoir subi une opération pour un cancer en mai 2015, on lui a retiré une masse cancéreuse d'un kilo à l'abdomen, selon le site officiel du musicien.
