Colonel general Gleb Vladímirovich Baklánov (Russian: Глеб Владимирович Бакланов);

1 August 1910 – 16 January 1976, was a Soviet Army officer who was awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union for battle at Dresden in the course of World War II.

He was the brother of Russian actress Olga Baclanova.

Military career

Born in Moscow, Russia, to a family of Vladimir Baklanov and his wife Alexandra. He joined the Red Army in 1932. During the Winter War he served as a chief of the staff of infantry regiment and was wounded.

In the course of World War II Baklanov as the Commander of 299th Rifle Division participated in the Battle of Stalingrad. He was awarded the Order of Alexander Nevsky and the Distinguished Service Cross.

From May 1943 as the Commander of 13th Guards Rifle Division engaged in theBattle of Kursk, the Battle of Dnieper, The Uman–Botoşani Offensive, The Lvov–Sandomierz Offensive.

From August 1944 as the Commander of 34th Guards Rifle Corps participated in theVistula–Oder Offensive, the Battle of Berlin and the Prague Offensive.

During the Moscow Victory Parade of 1945 commanded a combined regiment of the1st Ukrainian Front.

After the war, Baklanov was the Commander of the 13th Army, the Commander in Chief of the Siberian Military District and the Commander in Chief of the Northern Group of Forces.

Baklanov retired in 1968 and died in 1976. He is buried at the Novodevichy Cemetery.
