Oswald Ritter von Krobshofer (* 15 December 1883 in Prague; † 8 March 1960 in Leipzig) was a German painter, graphic artist, etcher and chess composer.

His life
Oswald von Krobshofer was a student[1] at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich from 14 November 1903 under Carl von Marr, Peter Halm and Julius Exter. He worked as an artist in Munich, Berlin, Naumburg, Leipzig and Miltitz near Leipzig. He was a member of the German Art Co-operative and the Metznerbund Tetschen. He was represented in the Munich Secession from 1911 to 1914 with landscape and figure paintings. In 1913 he had an exhibition at the Vienna Secession, and in 1921 he was represented with etchings at the Dresden Art Exhibition and the Munich Glaspalast.

Chess composition
Von Krobshofer composed three-move and multi-move chess pieces, and a chess study by him is also known. He occasionally used the pseudonym Opificius.

Die Schwalbe (magazine for chess composing) wrote about him:

"Oswald von Krobshofer (15.12.1883-8.3.1960). He favoured composing four-movement works of a heavy calibre; initially in a first creative phase from 1902 to 1906, then again briefly after a 20-year interruption (1926/27) and finally again from 1934. From 1947 he used the pseudonym Opificius."
