Gerhard Weber (3 June 1941 – 24 September 2020) was a German fashion designer and entrepreneur, who founded Gerry Weber, a fashion manufacturer and retailer in Halle, North Rhine-Westphalia. He sponsored sports, especially tennis, and built a stadium named after the company.

Life and career

Born in Halle, Weber attended the Höhere Handelsschule and trained to be a textile merchant. In 1965, he opened a fashion shop.

In 1973, Weber founded with Udo Hardieck the company Hatex AG in Halle, which was renamed Gerry Weber International AG from 1986, known as Gerry Weber. From 1989 on the company was listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange. In 2015, Gerry Weber took over Hallhuber. Weber retired in 2019.

He sponsored the Gerry Weber Open tennis tournaments at the new Gerry-Weber-Stadion (now OWL Arena), with a hotel and a sport park. He was president of the TC Blau-Weiss Halle tennis club, which became one of Germany's most successful tennis clubs. He also supported the soccer club Arminia Bielefeld from 2017. He played golf.

Weber was married, and the couple had two sons.

Weber died on 24 September 2020 in Münster at the age of 79.
