A model took her own life hours after a party where she won a Halloween fancy dress competition. Harriet Penelope Henry, 28, had been attending a party in Chichester, West Sussex on October 29 in the hours before her death.

She was still wearing red body paint and devil horns when she was found. An inquest into her death heard Miss Henry had a history of self-harming and previous suicide attempts. Her boyfriend Josh Mercier said in a statement the couple had a volatile relationship, and she had sent him text messages telling him she was leaving him.

He said: ‘I’ve been told things like this by her in the past and it didn’t seem out of the ordinary. At 6.22am, she said goodbye. I tried to call her. ‘I thought she’d get back in touch once she’d calmed down.’ Boy, 14, suffers life-changing injuries in shooting outside London Tube station Psychiatrist Dr Jean Sherrington told the the West Sussex inquest that Miss Henry, known to her friends as Penny, had been treated for an emotionally unstable personality disorder due to previous sexual abuse. She said: ‘She would have distressingly intense feelings which they find difficult to manage. Self harming was a way of dealing with those intense feelings.’ Miss Henry would often post about her feelings on social media, in 2016 she posted to the Facebook Borderline Personality Group page: ‘Hit rock bottom – nearly overdosed last night….. was it a call for help or did I actually want it to work? Loneliness is such a terrible curse to bare.’

Mum Barbara Stewart-Newell described her daughter as an emotional person who understood and empathised with everyone. ‘She seemed to be drawn to troubled characters who she tried to save.’
