Edgar Johnson was born in 1898 in Colchester.
He was the only child of Henry Johnson (born 1863 Stanway) and his wife Eleanor Louisa (nee Shelton, born 1871 Lexden). Amongst his many cousins were Agnes, Daisy, Claude, Ethelbert & Roland Johnson plus Harry Sanders.
All the afore-mentioned were grand-children of Robert Johnson, born 1823 Lexden.
Before becoming Private G/22631, in the Buffs (East Kent Regiment) 1st Batl., Edgar was a Porter at St. Botolphs’ Railway Station.
He died 18 September 1918, aged 20.
He has no known grave and is commemorated on Panel 3 of the VIS-EN-ARTOIS MEMORIAL, Pas De Calais (10 km south-east of the city of Arras).
