Ksenofontov  decided to kill 4 members of Russia's Tszars' family- granddukes ("veliky knyaz", grandsons of tszar Nikolay I). Even one of the prisoners-Georgii Mikhailovich was famous historian / scientist and Maxim Gorky asked Lenin not to execute him, Lenin made famous in Russia resolution on Gorky's letter, that "revolutions have no need in historians"
