Bangka Island massacre
Bangka Island massacre occurred on February 16, 1942, when Japanese soldiers mercilessly shot down 22 nurses from the Australian Army, in addition to savagely murdering civilian men, women, and children—all of whom had already surrendered to them. Just weeks before surrendering to the Japanese, the 130 army nurses stationed in Singapore had to be evacuated. There had been a string of rapes and beatings of white women committed by Japanese troops, so the order went out to evacuate the nurses.
While evacuation ship passed between Sumatra and Borneo, it was bombed by a Japanese aircraft and started sinking immediately. Many died in the initial bombing, but survivors make to shore. Here they were shot by Japanese soldiers
