SHWARTZ MICHAEL, 27.12.1903, Minsk. From 1921 in Daugavpils, active member of underground commun. Party in Latvia. In Spain from 1936; commissar of company 15 in the American-English brigade. Took part in many battles; from 1938 - captain of the 15 Interbrigade in the Sierra-de-Pandole mountains. Killed 18.08.1938. A concrete monument is installed on his gravestone with the following inscription: "He was killed in battles for Sierra-de- Pandole". His wife HELENA is one of the editors of the book "Fighters from Latvia in Spain". [pic]
