The man police suspected of being responsible for the spree of 5 parcel bombings that has shaken Austin, Texas, died after detonating an explosive device inside a vehicle as lauthorities were closing in.

The suspected serial bomber died after pulling over on Interstate 35 while he was being pursued by police.

An armed officer suffered minor injuries in the explosion as they approached the vehicle, with a second firing his weapon at the suspect.

Police Chief Brian Manley identified the suspect only as a 24-year-old white male.

Investigators have been pursuing a suspected serial bomber in Austin since the first explosion on March 2.

A 39-year old man was killed.

A 17-year-old boy was killed and two women were injured in two separate blasts on March 12.

On Sunday, two men – ages 22 and 23 – were injured in a blast trigged by a tripwire. 

In the latest incident, a package exploded at another FedEx sorting center near San Antonio on the same day one that failed to detonate was discovered at another FedEx facility near Austin.

Police offered a $100,000 reward for information that leads to the culprit of the suspected serial bomber.
