Corporal Leslie H Thorburn was born at Hanging Rock in Victoria Australia.
John Thorburn has his diaries and is amazed at his courage, determination and bravery throughout the trench warfare on the Somme.
He fought in all the major battles on the Somme in Poziers and around Albert.
He died of wounds in the Battle of Gueudecourt France on 9/11/1916.
His body was first buried in Albert and later moved to Heilly Station Military Cemetry, France.
He was awarded the Victory Medal and the British Medal, posthumously.
