TSHERNIN LEON, 1913, Daugavpils. Since 1928 in rev. movement, polit. prisoner; from May 1937 - in the Civil War in Spain, soldier of Anti-tank Battalion in 11 Interbrigade; c/camp in France, escaped to Bordeaux, then on ship to Denmark and Africa; from 1941 - member of French Comparty, took part in Resistance, commander of Partisan Detachment "Liberty" in WWII.
