KTM factory motorcycle racer Kurt Caselli crashed racing this year's running of the Baja 1000.

The official KTM-Red Bull rider who was one of the surprise entries at last year's Dakar after the withdrawal of Marc Coma had managed a promising debut in a discipline that he was discovering, winning two stages as soon as his first appearance, before clinching the win several months later at the Desafio Ruta 40, the Argentine leg of the Dakar Series. “Special K” who was therefore among the favourites for the next edition of the Dakar, was fatally injured and died at the Ensenada Hospital in Mexico after a crash in the last portion of the race.
