Joy "The Jet" Ali, whose real name is Zulfikar Joy Ali (December 22, 1978 – January 5, 2015), was an Indo-Fijian boxer. Ali was once ranked 13th in the world and, in October 2005, was ranked 15th by the WBA in the Super welterweight division. He beat Gary Comers for the PABA title.

He was the brother of Junior Farzan Ali.

Boxing career

In 1995, Ali's first reported boxing match was against Raven Singh, whom he defeated in the fourth round by a KO at the National Indoor Stadium,Suva, Fiji. He won the Pan Asian Boxing Association (PABA) light middleweight title, defeating the former World Amateur bronze medalist Ercüment Aslan of Turkey. On December 10, 2005, Ali fought against his most important opponent, Javier Mamani from Argentina, who was ranked ninth in the world at that time.[3] A win would have guaranteed Ali a title fight in the WBA. He put his PABA light middleweight title on the line, but was KO'd in the first round by Mamani. Ali boxed six more times, winning three and losing three. As of 2012, Ali held the Fiji Light Middleweight title. He fought a WBA Asian title fight against Crazy Kim, but was knocked out.

Golden Boy promotion

The main bout on the card for the event was the matchup between Ali and Joseph Kwadjo for the Universal Boxing Organisation Intercontinental super middleweight title. Before the fight, Ali said that he would knock out Kwadjo, but Kwadjo won the title on points.[4] Later, Ali claimed that the referee stole the fight from him as he dropped Kwadjo to the deck without getting a standing count and demanded a rematch.

Death

Ali died on January 5, 2015, at CWM Hospital in Suva. He was 36.
