Joseph Serena, Sr.

Joseph R. Serena, Sr., 86, a resident of the Gino J. Merli Veterans Center for the past month, a resident of Spring Brook Township since 1972, and formerly of Haskell, NJ, died Monday in Moses Taylor Hospital. His wife of 60 years is the former Mary Elizabeth Van Luvender.
Born in Chicago, Illinois, he was the son of the late Joseph F. and Elizabeth Deitrich Serena. Educated in Chicago Catholic Schools, he was a US Army Veteran serving as a Sergeant during World War II. He was employed as a truck driver by Albert Scalletti Trucking Company in Pompton Lakes, NJ, and prior to his retirement, he was employed by Tobyhanna Army Depot. He was a member of the Moscow American Legion. He was a parishioner of Spring Brook Congregational Church where he sang in the choir and served as an usher.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who enjoyed bowling and dancing. He was the life of the party where ever he went. He loved country music and his polkas. He and Mary enjoyed traveling and visited Niagara Falls, Branson, Myrtle Beach, and often traveled to Florida to visit his brother. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.

Two sons: Joseph R. Serena, Jr., and his wife, Tanya, Honesdale
Rodney J. Serena, and his wife, Rosemary, Spring Brook Township
A brother: Howard Serena, Gainesville, Florida
Grandchildren: Renee Dunn, Stephanie, Tamara, Kellashondra, Kevin, and Allan Serena
Great Grandchildren: Malorie, Wyatt, and Jacob
Several Nieces and Nephews
The funeral will be held on Friday at 10:00 AM in the Brian Arthur Strauch Funeral Home, Route 690 and First Street, Spring Brook Township. Interment with Military Honors, Marcy Cemetery, Duryea.
Friends may call on Thursday from 5 – 8 PM in the funeral home.
