Ivan Yarygin (November 7, 1948 - October 11, 1997) was a former Soviet wrestler and Olympic champion in Freestyle wrestling. He became a coach following his competitive career and later he was the President of the Russian Wrestling Federation. He was killed in a car crash in 1997. In March 2002, a monument was dedicated to Yarygin in Krasnoyarsk. Further, a commemorative international tournament, the Ivan Yarygin International, takes place every year in Krasnoyarsk in mid-winter.
Olympics
Yarygin competed at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich where he received a gold medal in Freestyle wrestling, the 100 kg (220 lb) weight class. He also won a gold medal at the 1976 Summer Olympics in Montreal.
