EIDUS IOSIF (YAZEP) ARONOVITCH, 03.07.1916, Vitebsk lived in Riga. Partic. in the revol. mov. in Latvia; arrested and after 3.5 y. deported from the country to London; during WWII returned to the USSR and volunt. 201 Lat. Rifle div.; partic. in the battles for Moscow; wounded; then joined partisan school and also at the front near St. Russa. Was sent to Moscow; demobiliz. as war inv.; worked at the Moscow Radiocentre. After the war was doc. and profes. of physics and chemistry. Arrested in 1953 by NKVD and deport, to GULAG camp; rehabilit. in 1956. Worked in Riga as a prof., issued 200 science publications. Died 20.04.2004. His sister TAMARA was a leading specialist of English literature in Lat. Univ. She was also arrested and sent to GULAG, rehabilit. in 1956. Died in Riga. [pic]
