wife of Edward Theodore Chalmers Werner.
On 1891, 1901 and 1911 census in England. On the last census she is with her father and two younger unmarried daughters. Her father is a retired Lt Colonel in the British Army in India.
Later that year she traveled to China to marry Edward. She had met him when he visited her area on a trip to England.
She and her husband adopted a baby girl after not having one of their own. Gladys later died of an overdose of Veronal. Veronal was a brand name of Barbital prescribed as a sleeping aid.
The cemetery where she was buried was destroyed by the Red Guards during the Cultural Revolution when teenagers destroyed anything old or foreign.

It was first destroyed during the Boxer Rebellian in 1900 by the Boxers who dug up bones and smashed grave markers.
This was repeated by the Red Guards in 1966 who went on a rampage of destruction.
