English (ENG)Carlos Eleta Almarán (1918–2013)
Panamanian composer, media pioneer, and the man who turned personal tragedy into one of the most famous boleros in the world — “Historia de un Amor”.Early Life

Born on May 16, 1918, in Panama City to Spanish immigrant parents — father Carlos Eleta García and mother Aurora Almarán. After his father’s death, his mother returned to Spain with the daughters, while Carlos and his younger brother Fernando remained in Panama. The brothers remained very close throughout their lives, despite completely opposite personalities: Carlos — a bohemian artist, Fernando — a disciplined engineer and entrepreneur.Carlos was a self-taught musician. He played the piano by ear, without formal musical education. He composed songs empirically and then asked musician friends to transcribe the notes.

“Historia de un Amor” — A Song Born from TragedyIn September 1954, his brother Fernando’s wife, Mercedes Casanovas Eleta (only 26 years old), died of polio just days after giving birth to their third child. Before her death, she asked Carlos:
“Carlos, you are the older brother, please don’t leave my Fernando and our three children alone.”Right after Mercedes’ death, in the building of Radio Programas Continental (the radio station founded by the brothers), Carlos sat down at the piano and wrote the song — a tribute to his brother’s pain and love for his wife.

The song was first recorded in 1955–1956 by Leo Marini and Sonora Matancera. It quickly became a global hit and remains one of the most recorded and translated Latin American songs in the world.Performers (a selection): Libertad Lamarque, Olga Guillot, Luis Miguel, Julio Iglesias, Dalida, Lucio Gatica, Roberto Alagna, and many others.

Original Spanish lyrics fragment:

Ya no estás más a mi lado, corazón,
en el alma solo tengo soledad...
¿Por qué Dios me hizo quererte
para hacerme sufrir más?

Business and Legacy in Panama

Together with his brother Fernando, Carlos was a pioneer of Panamanian media. They founded RPC Radio and, in 1960, RPC Televisión (Canal 4) — the first television channel in Panama.Carlos was also active in sports and society: tennis, horse breeding (he founded Haras San Miguel), boxing promotion (one of the first to notice the talent of Roberto “Mano de Piedra” Durán), and other projects. He was known as a humble, empathetic, and humorous man who treated everyone as equals.

Death and Memory

He died on January 16 or 17, 2013, in Panama City at the age of 94.
His “Historia de un Amor” continues to play around the world and has become a cultural symbol of Panama.“Es la historia de un amor como no hay otro igual…”

Despite his song being a global treasure, traditional Wikipedia still does not consider him notable enough for a separate article. This entry was prepared and submitted for publication by Timenote.info and is now also published in Grokipedia. We are correcting that here.
